We Lost

I am so frustrated.
We lost our battle with my sons "teacher" and he has been official kicked out of school.

The admin didn't care to listen, nor did she care to come speak with us.
She sent everyone under her to address this situation.

Yet the inclusion therapist totally sided with us but is not allowed by law to voice her opinion against the school.

This is what this city has to offer, no wonder we have the highest drop out rate in the country.

No one wants to take responsibility or the time to have to address Special Needs.

I am not sorry that our son is not a robot zombie. He has a wonderful personality and gets along with almost everyone. He does not get along with a person who blatantly hates him.

I feel beat up, I feel let down, I feel as if it is our fault. I feel I am talking to a brick wall when all I want to do is SCREAM and say LISTEN to him, LISTEN to US as parents.
Let me participate in class and show what he needs. I know him best. We spend 24 hours a day together, just me and him. I know his ticks, I know is quirks. I also know he is 3 and Boy with hyperactivity.
I am hands on willing to help, LET ME HELP.

What is to be done?

oh amy..i am soo sorry for all that you are going through right now. know that out there..somewhere..are some VERY good educators whose passions are to truly "teach"......especially those children that are filled with "spirit" ( I would know....my parents were 2 of them). Hang in there! thinking of you..saying some prayers...and sending hugs!!

Thank you Michelle
it is a hard battle to fight for someone who can't speak for themselves. We are focused on not letting this system tell us no.
We will continue our fight.

Amy,
You hang in there. There are some good teachers out there, sometimes you just have to search harder for them.....I know for my own dd, she'll have some good teachers and some not so good teachers but that's how it's gonna go.
It's harder for the little ones to understand, however, so we have to fight the fight for them.
You can do it!

So sorry. Too bad there are not more teachers out there like you, who care about our kids. I've been very lucky to have come across the best of the best from the community centers in Henderson to the public schools in Vegas and Pahrump. They are out there and im know very soon you will come across one of them and all will be well.

Hi Amy! Oh my, I'm feeling for you right now my friend. What a lousy school system and teacher you are up against. I don't know why they wouldn't let you participate and show what your son needs. It's true - us Moms know our children absolutely best, and know what they need.
Our son has been going to various therapy sessions since he was three for: gross motor skills, fine motor skills, speech/social skills. The therapists have been invaluable all that time. Now he's 7 and only needs to go for fine motor skills.
There is good help out there for you Amy. I hope you can find a better school system & a nurturing environment. Keep up that fighting spirit for your beautiful boy!

Amy,
No, you didn't lose, you won!! You're keeping your precious son out of the hands of some very unqualified and uninformed "teachers". It sounds like they should perhaps think of another line of work!
We Mom's always have to go with our gut feelings, and if it doesn't feel right and isn't a good fit, then move on.
I would count my blessings if I were you that they weren't able to inflict any more damage on your precious son than they already have....:).
You're a great Mom, some day the right school will present itself and he'll be off and running!

The most important thing that I see when reading your words is this. You little boy is three years old! Is everyone remembering he is "only" three? Boys sometimes are a bit slower than girls. But the bottom line is that your little guy is only three and should be able to be a little kid for a bit longer, or at least that is what I'm feeling!

Take care my friend,
Sue

I am so sorry, Amy. Just hearing you will continue to fight this battle gives Brooklyn a good chance at getting into the right school or with the right teacher. xo Rhonda

Thank you all and Tina aka Patrick, I cherish your words!!!
I think this situation hurts even more cause I was in that teacher position and no it is not easy but to give it your all for the kids.

Really, my child learns all he needs to at home but needs the interaction of kids and thats what is heartbreaking, he just wants to be around kids and be a kid.

I am so sorry. I have dealt with our school system so many times. Our daughter magically "tested out" of her IEP in elementary school, and she has cerebral palsy. How does 8that* happen? Fortunately our daughter has a fantastic special ed lawyer. You need to know your rights because if your child was in a public school they broke about three federal laws from what you posted....

By the way.....is the inclusion therapist your son's case manager or instructional support teacher? You need to hire a lawyer because we are talking about federal law here.....
